Today's cooking lesson.

Here is what we cooked for March’s cooking lesson.

This pie is fantastic!

The pie crust is slightly salty. The idea of the saltiness is to balance the sweetness and creaminess of the pie. On the bottom of the pie is a banana toffee base. It’s sweet, soft, banana-y, and yummy. Bananas are sliced and placed on top of the toffee filling. On top of the bananas is whipped cream, with a coffee syrup folded in. Finally shaved chocolate is placed on the whipped cream. Then, all you need is a fork and you can dig in.

The students were served this pie at last month’s cooking lesson, but there wasn’t time to teach how to make it at that time. So, today the pie recipe was taught, along with other foods. The pie isn’t that hard to make, but each step takes a bit of time. Mostly, it is just the time between steps that makes this pie take a long time to come together. But come together it does.

With the pie, students cooked a dish of cabbage, sausages and potatoes. A one-dish wonder that is pretty easy to prepare and yet has a deep, rich taste to it.

As always, the students did a great job with everything and my time with them was enjoyable. I look forward to the next time we cook together.
