A Busy Afternoon in the Kitchen

It was a nice day outside today. Yet I spent the afternoon in the kitchen. In the end everything turned out fine.

Quiche was for dinner today. Once it was voted on and passed (all in favour say ‘aye’…) unanimously, then it was nap time. After the nap, I got down to work.

The crusts were easy to bake up but it took about an hour to get them finished. While they were baking, my wife baked some chocolate banana bread for after dinner.

I also used the time while the crusts were baking to prepare the fillings for the quiches. The adult’s quiche had garlic fried spinach, balsamic vinegar fried onions, a small bit of cheese and some lemon sage. The children’s quiche had some sausage, bacon and cheese and a bit of Italian parsley.

Then, while the quiches baked, I used the leftover potatoes from yesterday’s perogies (those are nearly all gone) to make another batch of perogies. My original intention was to freeze these perogies for a later date to be used as a snack or meal. However, certain little people in the house vetoed my plan and therefore the perogies will be consumed within the next day or two.

I was out of the kitchen by 5 PM and was able to relax for a full hour before dinner.

We ended up taking advantage of the nice weather and dined outside again tonight. Dessert was some of the banana bread and some watermelon which we kindly received from our neighbours.

Tummies were and are, happy-happy.
