I made some bagels today.

I had a craving for bagels today, so I decided to bake some.

It’s nothing new. I’ve done it many times. We can now (after living many, many years) buy bagels at some bakeries and even some frozen bagels at the odd shop. But the shops that bake them are not so close and the frozen ones are not as good as freshly baked.

Which leaves me with the task of baking some.

How difficult was it? Not difficult at all.

Did it take long? Well, it took about 3 hours. Was I in the kitchen the whole time? No, don’t be crazy. I had tests to mark, lessons to plan and teach, the dog to walk and so on.

How did they turn out? Great. Crispy on the outside, soft inside. They have slight chew to them. Are they the best bagels? No. But I’d wager they’re better than anything I can get in my town.

Next time (maybe in a few weeks), I’ll smoke some salmon with some of that cherry wood I recently picked up. Bagels with the salmon and some cream cheese will be a great breakfast/snack/lunch/dinner.
