We visited Naruto city’s public market today, the “kosetsu ichiba” near our house. This was the first time we could visit the market, as it is not usually open to non-professionals. The market was huge, full of lots of foods and customers, and thankfully covered as today’s weather was rainy.

One of the foods we saw there was this monster.



You can see the normal-sized cabbage on top of the larger “monster cabbages” for sale. That would make a lot of coleslaw!! We bought just a few items, but wound up with a lot of food for very little money.

That box full of sweet pototoes was only ¥500! Same with the lotus roots! The carrots were ¥200 for as many as you could stuff into a bag. They had the same deal for a number of other vegetables. Having done grocery shopping the day before, we didn’t buy as much as we could have.

I hope to have the chance to go back and do more shopping at this market in the future, and hope that the range of foods will also increase with time.
