A Sampling from bakery nook in Naruto

We sampled some of the goods from a local bakery today.

When I came to Japan, many moons ago, finding bread that was not soft, white, tasteless sandwich-style bread was a challenge. I would travel out of my way once a week to buy breads that were better than the local offerings. My how times have changed! Whilst the simple white bread still dominates the landscape, here and there, in nooks and crannies, good bread exists.Speaking of which, recently 'bakery nook' has appeared in our fine city. Previously, as I understand it, this bakery was baking goods by special order, and also appearing at various markets selling their goods.Good is what this bread is, as well as this bakery. We sampled a chocolate bagel, which contained pieces of chocolate and almond inside, a strawberry bread which looks white but smells and tastes, mildly, of strawberry, and a small french bread, wee in size but big in flavour. The setting is one of openness whereby customers can see the staff preparing the bread and arranging it. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Staff were friendly, and very surprising was that they keep a pot of coffee on hand for customers to enjoy, for free. Even more surprising for me was that the coffee was decaffeinated. Up until just recently, decaffeinated coffee has been rarer than space aliens in Japan. While I do enjoy regular coffee, such as espresso in the mornings, I do not want the caffeine that comes with regular coffee on many days, and it is impossible for me to drink it in the afternoon or evening without it affecting my sleep. Therefore to see decaffeinated coffee on hand, and not advertised as something special or unusual, was a welcome sight. My thanks to the staff today for their service. I visited, I bought, I enjoyed, and I will be back.
