Are you, too, affected by the power of suggestion?During one of my recent lessons, we discussed foods made with bread, and one of the foods mentioned was Sloppy Joes. The next day the idea of making Sloppy Joes again was stuck in my head.Yesterday, the idea finally came to fruition.Years ago in Canada, I usually made Sloppy Joes by buying the flavouring packet that you added to your meat and vegetables and in minutes you had a tasty dinner ready. Here in Japan, I'm guessing that while that Sloppy Joes mix might exist somewhere, it is not common and not worthwhile searching for on my part. That means making Sloppy Joes from scratch. Luckily, that's not a big problem and anyone could make this recipe. But let me back up and explain this food a little. Sloppy Joes is basically a simple tomato meat sauce which is eaten with hamburger buns. While eating this food, the sauce has a tendency to drip out of the bun and make a mess, hence the name 'Sloppy' Joes.A simple search on the internet will yield loads of recipes for Sloppy Joes. I used the basics of the recipe from the site Simply Recipes. I've used the recipes from this site for years now, and the results have always been good. The site offers simply explanations of the recipes, simple instructions for the recipe and wonderful pictures throughout. It's one of the best sites, in my opinion for recipes. So, I made up my Sloppy Joes, adjusting my recipe here and there and they turned out great. I decided for my first helping to use a half bun with sauce, twice, instead of eating it like a hamburger. Either way, they taste great. Don't believe me? My daughters will verify my account (or maybe not), seeing as they ate multiple - multiple!!! - helpings. And yes, there were some leftovers. Those were for my daughters to have at breakfast today. If you've never had them, give them a try: Sloppy Joes. You and your tummy will be thankful.
