IH Cooking

Our gas range is gone and in it’s place we have a new electric range.

This is our new IH cooking range.IH stands for induction heating. IH cooking ranges use the cooking vessel to cook the foods. By this I mean that the cooking range stays cool (mostly) while the cooking vessel heats up. This means less energy is used for cooking and less heat is wasted into the cooking environment. If you wish to know more about the exact details, perhaps a quick visit over to Wikipedia will help. We’ve only used the IH cooking range for a short time now but our overall impression is positive. Most of our cookware is OK with the IH system. We’ve since bought a couple of pieces of cookware, but they were not expensive and the range of IH cookware is huge, so it’s possible to find something in any price range. The speed at which foods cook is shockingly fast. If one wishes to cook at the same speeds of regular electric or gas ranges, that is possible as long as the cooking levels on the IH range are set to low levels. Our range gives information about the cost performance of the cooking and though it has only been a few days, it seems that cooking with the IH system costs less money than it did with our gas range. There have been times that the noise level of the IH range has been louder than a gas or regular electric range. We’ve done some experimenting and found that this is minimized by choosing cookware that is well made (i.e. no loose parts on the vessel) and by using the most appropriate setting on the IH range. It’s still early in the summer and our super-high humidity hasn’t kicked in yet. When it does, I have a pretty good feeling about using the IH system. I’m pretty sure our kitchen is going to be a lot cooler this summer. We’ve yet to try out all the unique functions of the IH system, but so far, things are good. As we learn more, I will provide further details.
