A Bird in the Hand...

Recently we've been lucky enough to have some songbirds around our house. I've decided to be a good neighbour to them.

With the coming of Spring, we've noticed that we have songbirds singing away during the day somewhere around our house.I think that the birds are on the tops of our house and the tops of our neighbours' houses as well. We have a very small back yard and due to the extreme angle I'm not able to see to the very top of houses from back there, but the songs seem to be coming from the rooftops.I did a quick search on the internet and found suggestions for making a cheap bird feeder using an old pop bottle. While the site I looked at suggested that this could basically be made for free, I found there was some expense required. Many pictures of pop bottle bird feeders seem to show a couple of wooden spoons used for holding the seed from the feeder, and providing a perch for birds. The site I used for inspiration suggested that I could use some leftover wooden spoons I have lying around my house. I'm not sure who happens to have 'leftover' wooden spoons just lying around the house and not being used for cooking, but this situation doesn't apply to us.However, the big chopsticks I purchased were cheap, as was the hook needed to hang the feeder. The bird seed was a little more expensive, but not very expensive.Should you know any birds in need of sustenance, please let them know that dinner is on us if they make it on over here. For us, a bird on our land is worth more that 2 birds in the bush.
