What does heaven smell like?

For me, the smell of strawberries is one possibility. I’m sure others have different suggestions such as coffee, BBQ or roses but for me, strawberries is definitely one option. Sweet, natural, floral aroma: that is the smell we experienced while picking strawberries today.

One of my former student’s family invited us to come picking, as they have finished selling their strawberries for this season. They are already getting ready for their fall crop. But there were still plenty of fruit for picking. We ate our fair share, then took home a lot of the strawberries.

We’ve shared some of the strawberries with neighbours and saved some for eating as is. Others were made into various jams, both freezer and cooked. Finally, we froze some of the berries to turn into ice cream over the next few weeks. In this way, we will enjoy the fruit now and over the next 6 months or so.

We really appreciate the kindness of our friends for inviting us and sharing their crops with us. Months from now, while having some jam on bread or pancakes we will smile and remember our friends.
