Do you know White Day?White Day is celebrated on March 14th in Japan and it’s connected to Valentine’s Day. In Japan it is more common for women to give something to men on Valentine’s, and most commonly chocolate is given as a present. In return for receiving chocolates on Valentine’s, men should give some present back. The presents include candies such as chocolates and small clothing items such as handkerchiefs. Before Valentine’s, there are many varieties of chocolates on display at most retail outlets, from small convenience stores to large department stores. However, for White Day, very little space is provided for selling goods and the variety is also limited.I received a few small packages of chocolates from students for Valentine’s and as usual I’ve decided to make some treat to give back to those students. This year I made Maple Bacon cookies because at Christmas I received a package of cookie mix and frosting. This is an interesting combination of two delicious foods, but it’s something that is never seen in the stores here (I mean the combination of the two ingredients). The cookies baked up nice and the whole house smelled of maple syrup. Taste testing by myself and the rest of the family assured that these are tasty treats. The cookies are packaged up now in individual bags that’ll be distributed this week when students come for their lessons. I hope they will be enjoyed.
