April's Cooking Lesson

Today was another English cooking lesson at our school.

The title of today’s cooking lesson was Snake in the Hole. For some, these words might strike fear in their hearts. while for others, curiosity has been piqued. Where do you lie?

The snake in today’s recipe was actually just meatloaf, shaped like a snake in the pan. The shape, as I said could be interesting for some (think small children who need prodding to get into the meal time fun) but another reason this shape is good is that it allows more of the meat to be browned, thereby increasing the flavour of the meatloaf.

The roasting pan also contained Yorkshire pudding. Finally, some onion gravy was made so that it could be eaten with the meat and pudding. All three were delicious. We also had a simple salad of greens from our garden, and some tomatoes cut, and sprinkled with black truffle salt.

Dessert, for those who had room (everyone did), was a slice or two of some Blondies (no picture - oops!) the students baked at the beginning of the class. Yes, they were yummy, and yes, thankfully there were leftovers to be shared by all.

A great time, and as always I look forward to the next time.
