Smoked Salmon Spread, a la もくさくえき

They don't sell Smoked Salmon cream cheese in the stores here in Japan. What's a boy to do? Make it at home.

One of the things I like to treat myself with when I go back to visit Canada is some Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese. Not only myself, but the rest of my family also loves it, and so it quickly disappears when we bring back some to Japan.Recently, I decided to make a homemade version of this treat.Using some cream cheese, a can of salmon (not flaked), and some liquid smoke I was able to make a good spread. I've enthused before about this local liquid smoke here and here. It really is a wonderful product.I let the flavour deepen overnight in the refrigerator and we had it the next morning at breakfast with toast. How was it? Truthfully, it was not exactly the same as the one in Canada. Nonetheless, it was delicious enough that the whole container was finished in one sitting. Because it was easy to make and I still have a lot more of my liquid smoke, we'll be enjoying this many times more in the future. I've saved making a trip to Canada!
