I did it again.

I did some playing in our garden today.

I can’t help myself.

You’ll probably read one of my posts in the near future, complaining about something that’s growing or not growing in our garden.

Let me back up a bit in the story. Last weekend, I took out the summer plants and dug up the garden. I had bought a few new plants to grow during the winter (swiss chard, Italian parsley, arugula and a few others) and after the garden cleaning, carefully put them into their new home.

For one week now, the garden has been looking good. It has a few plants in it, there are no weeds to be seen, and the soil texture looks good - neither dry nor wet, but something between.

And then it happened. Today, while I had some free time between some chores, I started snooping into our collection of seeds. Before I knew what I was doing, packages were being opened, seeds were falling into my hands, and those same seeds were being distributed in the garden.

There is nothing strange about planting vegetables and herbs from seeds. What’s strange is the method I tend to use which is to randomly throw seeds here and there without keeping any notes or putting in any markers with names, and hoping that everything will grow well. It never does. Inevitably, somewhere’s down the road I find something growing and if is not yanked out (weeds!) by me and it does grow, then I am perplexed as to what it is and how it got into my garden. Am I the only one who does this?

So, that’s why I’m warning you (and maybe myself, if I remember to look at this posting in a few months) about what may happen. Be ready to praise me if something nice grows and I crow about it, or to soothe my soul if I’m bitter about the poor state of the garden. It’s time to cross my fingers.
