Butter. A simple food that you probably never think too deeply about. If you live in Japan however, recently the topic of butter has been something to pay attention to, if you like to do cooking with butter. In the last few weeks, there has been a shortage of butter in Japan. Stories about this have been written by others, such as this one, or this one.We had butter in the house until just recently, and now that we had run out I was unsure if we’d be able to purchase any more before the holidays.I always bake cookies with my younger students at our English School at Christmas time. Usually I make 2 types of cookies with the students, and one of the cookies is a freezer cookie made with butter. The thought of changing that tradition had me a bit worried.Luckily, after failing to find butter at 2 different stores I was able to find some butter at a third store. Quickly I purchased the butter and felt strangely happy that I was able to get some butter.Should you be reading this in another country where butter is plentiful and cheap, don’t hesitate to send me a kilogram or two. Heck, even 500 grams of the stuff would make me happy.Always, always have some butter in your house. It’s delicious, it’s healthy (in small quantities) considering that there is nothing artificial added, and elevates foods to a higher level. Remember it’s butter to be safe than sorry. Also, nothing’s butter than butter. As I hear you groan, I’ll sign off for now. Oh, one more: good, butter, best!
