2012 Annual Tacos Party

Today was our annual Tacos Party.

Every year, we hold a tacos party for the younger students at our school. We had two groups of students come for two parties today. The students ranged from kindergarten to Grade 6 of elementary school.

The tacos we make are actually flour tortillas. Nevertheless, the food is not usually eaten by most families in our city and I would venture, in Japan as a whole. There have been the odd Mexican restaurants around in our part of Japan but they are not common.

The picture above shows students rolling out the tortillas on our dining room table. All students did a great job, but those students who’ve come to one or more parties are experts at making the tortillas. Seriously, it was like a tortilla factory with one of the groups. They were busy rolling out tortilla after tortilla and bringing them for us to cook up in the kitchen. Each student was asked to make from 2-3 tortillas, but some of the faster students did 6 or more!

After a quick clean-up and a quick game, it was eating time. The students gobbled up tortilla after tortilla and still managed to find room for some ice cream at the end.

A big thank you to my family for all the work they did, as well as all the students and their families for their participation in this event.
