Fruitcake Update

I promised some more information on the fruitcake, and here it is.

As you can see, my fruitcake doesn’t have the usual shocking red and green candied cherries to brighten the colour of the cake. I actually did add a small amount of the red cherries, but there are very few in the cake.

The cake does have a lot of dried fruits and fruit peel in it, and the taste is great. There are lots of flavours in the cake and the brandy is noticeable but not overwhelming. I’m glad with how the cake turned out, and will definitely make it again next year.

Fruitcake will never be something I can eat loads of at one time, but in small doses I love it. Each little mouthful has a wide range of smells, textures and tastes. It’s not heavy tasting with fats, not sickly sweet tasting of sugars, but with lots of flavours and fruits, each mouthful packs a punch. With these little mouthfuls, good things do come in small packages.
