I had a craving...

I needed to eat meat on the bone today. And so...

When I was in Canada recently, my frugal nature got the better of me. After having a turkey for Christmas dinner, I had difficulty wasting the tremendous amount of leftover turkey meat. So, rather than let it go to waste, we had turkey for dinner in one form or another for quite a while after Christmas. What this means is that I didn’t buy or prepare other foods that can be difficult to come by here in Japan. One of those foods I sometimes crave is ribs. I passed by a restaurant that makes pretty decent ribs numerous times during our stay, and while the thought crossed my mind, the thought of those darn turkey leftovers always crept into my mind as well. The other night, I was craving some ribs, but knowing how expensive and difficult they can be to find, my mind quickly thought of a solution: chicken drumlets!Today I baked up the drumlets, which were coated with various spices while I mixed up a BBQ style sauce. After the drumlets were cooked, I added the sauce and broiled them for another 30 or so minutes, carefully turning them over many times. During this time, the drumlets browned nicely, and the sauce thickened. They were fantastic. My wife checked whether I made up the recipe from thin air, or whether there was a recipe written down. My answer that the recipe was written down assured her that we will soon be able to eat these delicious drumlet, my rib-substitute, soon again.
