Update: Robot Vacuum

We’ve used our new robot vacuum a few days now and can give some more information about it.

Well, we’ve been using the new robot vacuum every day since we bought it and it’s time to give an update about its value.

My wife and I have noticed that when we use our traditional bag-less vacuum, we always get a large handful of dog hair in the vacuum. Yet as you can see in the above picture, there seems to be very little dog hair.

We’ve checked our floors after vacuuming and found that the vacuum is doing a good job at vacuuming. We are guessing that the hair in the robot vacuum is compressed into a small area, whereas the traditional vacuum leaves the hair in a larger, expanded state.

As I mentioned (did I? Yes, I did.) we are not going to throw away our older vacuum. The robot vacuum will be used to supplement the main vacuum.

We have found it best to remove as many obstacles from the floor as possible before vacuuming, including lifting dining chairs onto our table. This may not be possible or convenient for some people, but it save a lot of battery power that would otherwise be used banging to and fro inside and between the chair legs.

For the price we paid (less than 20,000 yen, or less that $200) the vacuum is doing a great job. For those who’ve been thinking about getting a robot vacuum, I recommend it.
