Did Someone Say 'Perogies'?

I did some cooking today.

Did someone say ‘perogies’? Yes, I did. Many, many times last week. I was discussing perogies with students in a lesson about food, Canada and the Ukraine. I wanted the students to become familiar with this particular food, but little did I realize that I was actually hypnotizing myself to make more perogies.

After our Tacos Party yesterday, we had some leftover cheese. Combined with potatoes we received from a friend recently and we were well on our way to having all the ingredients for perogies.

I usually make potato and cheese filled perogies and sometimes include sauerkraut filled ones but rarely make my favorite dill and cottage cheese perogies due to the limitations of getting cottage cheese in Japan. Oh, I can buy it, but the containers usually contain little more than a few spoonfuls of cottage cheese. Someday I’ll get around to making it in large quantities, but I’m still not there yet.

I made a lot more perogies today than I usually do, but I don’t worry as what we don’t eat today or tomorrow will be frozen and eaten in the near future. I’m happy my family enjoys them, and happy to pass on my heritage. Should you not happen to see me eating lunch tomorrow, you’ll still be able to guess what I’ll be eating. I wonder what food I should discuss with students this week?
