Fresh Turmeric

Today I picked some fresh turmeric from our garden to use in tonight’s dinner.

Well, it might not be the prettiest sight, but it will taste good.We’ve had turmeric growing all summer in our garden. It has big beautiful leaves.Around the same time I planted the turmeric, I planted some ginger root. At one point during the summer, some of the ginger root was popping up so I carefully covered it up again.I decided to make some chicken curry for tonight’s dinner and looked forward to using fresh ginger and turmeric from our garden.After digging up these roots of turmeric, I went back outside to dig up some ginger. Only, I couldn’t do it. Why? Because it seems I no longer have any ginger growing that I can find. All the plants I checked today are turmeric, and by my reckoning I’ve got quite a bit of it.

I grated some of the fresh turmeric into my curry and contined cooking. The turmeric grated easily and was juicy. With all the spices that go into my curry, I won’t be able to notice the fresh turmeric but I will know that it’s in there.In the end the curry turned out great.

It’s said that turmeric helps with our memory. I hope that be eating some of my fresh turmeric, I can remember what happened to all my fresh ginger in the garden.
