Tacos Towers

We had our annual Tacos Party today.

Tacos Towers is the name of a game I play with students during our annual Tacos party. After the games, we get down to business. As the picture above shows, many little hands makes for light (and dusty) work. When we started doing our Tacos parties years ago, we had to prepare quite a few of the soft tortillas for the tacos before the students arrived. Tacos were not something any of the students had ever eaten since the food was not sold here. The ingredients for flour tortillas are readily available so we decided to use those for the tacos. Plus, as many students have eaten maki-zushi / まきずし , a sushi which involves rolling up various ingredients inside a piece of seaweed covered with sushi rice, the concept of making and rolling up one’s own food would be easy to grasp for the students. Many years later, the Tacos party often includes many students who’ve come the previous parties. They need very little direction regarding preparing the tortillas and are extremely efficient at making their tacos.

Time goes quickly at the party and before you know, many tacos have been eaten, bellies are full, and smiles are on faces (as well as tomato sauce, flour, chocolate and so on).Another year has finished for the Tacos party and we thank all those who participated (and to the parents who allowed their children to partcipate). With a happy tummy, and an ever-so-slight burn on my lips from the hot sauce, we bid you ‘Adios’ until next year.
